FAQS
WHAT IS PET CARE INSURANCE AND WHY DO I NEED IT?
- Pet Care is Malayan's insurance solution dedicated to Pet Owners that provides financial assistance in case of unexpected expenses relative to owning a pet. It covers:
1. Medical Expenses - includes reimbursement for the costs of diagnosing, treating, and medicating your pet when they're ill (as long as it's not excluded in the policy) or if they get injured in an accident.
2. Burial Assistance - if, sadly, your pet needs to be euthanized by a licensed vet, this coverage provides lump sum benefit of Php 10,000.
3. Owner's Liability - if your pet's actions cause harm to someone or damage to a property of a third party, Pet Care will help cover your legal responsibilities.
4. Owner's Personal Accident: It also includes coverage for you, the pet owner, in case of personal accidents.
Pet Care acts as a safety net for both you and your beloved pet. It's designed to provide financial assistance when your pet faces illness or accidents, allowing you to ensure your pet receives the best care possible without the stress of overwhelming bills.
WHAT TYPES OF PETS ARE COVERED?
- Currently, our coverage includes dogs, but we will soon be adding coverage for cats as well.
MY DOG IS A MIXED-BREED? IS HE/SHE ELIGIBLE FOR PET CARE?
- Yes! Pet Care is designed to be inclusive, which means it provides coverages for all types of dogs, including mixed-breeds like Aspins or Asong Pinoy.
HOW SOON CAN I BUY PET CARE FOR MY DOG?
- You can purchase Pet Care insurance for your dog when they are between 6 months to 8 years old.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET MY PET DOG PET CARE INSURANCE?
- You’ll need to submit a duly accomplished and signed Application Form together with the photo of your pet you wish to insure. Please note that the Application Form comes with a declaration of your pet’s health at the time of purchase.
- You may also provide us with other documents, if you have the following on-hand:
1. Pet Baby Book / Veterinarian Records
2. Veterinarian’s Certification on the Insured Pet’s Health
3. Pedigree Certificate (if applicable)
I OWN MULTIPLE PETS. IS THE INSURANCE COVERAGE TRANSFERABLE FROM ONE PET T ANOTHER?
- No, the insurance coverage is not transferable between pets; each pet must have its own separate policy. But as a pet owner, you can have multiple policies to cover all your pets individually.
HOW LONG IS MY PET INSURED WITH PET CARE IF I PURCHASE A POLICY?
- Your pet is insured with Pet Care for one (1) year, and you can renew the policy annually until your pet turns eight (8) years old.
DOES PET CARE COVER MY DOG AND I EVEN WHEN WE'RE IN TRAVEL MODE?
- Yes, Pet Care does cover you and your dog during local travel. However, for international travel, it's a bit different. When you and your pet are outside the Philippines, the coverage for Medical Reimbursement, Burial Cash Assistance, and Owner’s Liability is temporarily paused.
- However, since Pet Care Insurance includes Owner’s Personal Accident coverage as part of the policy, this specific coverage will remain active and provide protection for you even during international travel.
WHAT TYPES OF ILLNESS ARE COVERED BY MEDICAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY DOG?
- While our policy doesn’t specify a list of covered illnesses, it’s important to note that the following illnesses and conditions are excluded from coverage:
1. Pre-existing conditions
2. Inherited or congenital conditions
3. Conditions related to breeding, pregnancy, whelping, and nursing
4. Bilateral conditions (conditions existing on one side of the dog before the policy started), including those related to anal glands, behavior, and teeth
5. More than one illness or injury during a coverage period due to repetitive or similar activities
6. Issues related to internal or external parasites
7. Illnesses for which vaccines are available
8. Obesity or overweight, unless caused by an underlying medical condition
9. Osteoarthritis, spondylosis, luxating patella, and diabetes
MY PET HAS A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. CAN HE/SHE STILL BE INSURED?
- Pets with pre-existing conditions are welcome to apply. However, it’s important to note that pre-existing conditions and any potential effects related to them will not be covered under the policy. They will be specifically excluded from coverage.
CAN PRESCRIBED TAKE HOME MEDICINES BE REIMBURSED?
- Yes, provided that these medicines were prescribed by a licensed veterinarian to treat an illness that is not excluded in the policy or an injury due. Additionally, laboratory test expenses are also reimbursed if the diagnosed illness is covered by the policy.
ARE VACCINATIONS AND REGULAR CHECK-UPS COVERED?
- Vaccinations are generally not covered unless they are prescribed by the attending licensed veterinarian to treat an injury, sickness, or illness that is not excluded in the policy. Routine check-ups are not covered as they are considered part of regular pet care, but if a veterinarian diagnoses an illness during a check-up, the related expenses may be covered.
IS THERE A LIST OF ACCREDITED CLINICS?
- There is no specific list of approved clinics or veterinarians. We accept services from any clinic or veterinarian, provided they are duly licensed to operate and practice by the relevant government agencies.
